Summary of the Brooke County Schools’ Acceptable Use Policy (*Note: This is a summary of Brooke County Schools’ Acceptable Use Policy and does not attempt to describe the policy in its entirety).
Parents must sign waiver that they have read and are aware of the policy. Note to parents: While the intent of Brooke County Schools is to provide access to the Internet and online services to further its educational goals and objectives, parents should be aware that student account holders will have access to potentially unacceptable resources if they disregard the school’s and the school system’s access limitations. Parents also understand that the teacher cannot be held responsible for intentional infractions committed by the students.
Students must sign a waiver agreeing that they:
Will not damage or interfere with the normal operation of any computer or network hardware or software.
Will limit use of telecommunications in school to the educational objectives established by teacher(s).
Will not retrieve or send unethical, illegal, immoral, inappropriate or unacceptable information of any type.
Will not use abusive language of any type, including swearing and name-calling.
Will not divulge home address, phone number, and personal information with another user for any purpose.
Will not plagiarize information received in any form.
Will not use another person’s account.
Will not share my password with anyone else.
Will not attempt to bypass the security built into the system, and I recognize that doing so will result in immediate loss of Internet and/or online servide priveliges.
Will not use telecommunication access to transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials.

Sponsoring teachers must sign a waiver agreeing that they have read the policy, discussed it with the students, and agree to adhere to the terms.
Disciplinary consequences for violations of terms: Any infraction will cancel student’s user privileges and may result in further disciplinary action, including suspension from school.
